For the first time since the Corona pandemic, the "kidsTUMove" Summer Camp 2021 will again take place in presence. From August 9 to 13, 2021, a diverse program will be offered daily between 9 AM and 5 PM on the grounds of the TUM Campus in the Olympic Park under the motto "Heroes wanted" for children and adolescents aged six to 18, including those with chronic illnesses.
The organizational team led by Dr. Nicola Stöcker from the Chair of Preventive Pediatrics and the Applied Sports Science Unit has put together a colourful weekly program. The content of this year's event will focus on the topics of "self-defense" and "mental strength". In addition, many sports are to be transferred integratively into everyday life by the participants.
The summer camp, which is also aimed at children of TUM employees, is already fully booked with 40 participants. However, interested parties can still be placed on the waiting list.
"It is very gratifying that the summer camp is so well received and that the places for participants were booked up so quickly," says Prof. Dr. Renate Oberhoffer-Fritz, Dean of the Department of Sport and Health Sciences and head of the Chair of Preventive Pediatrics. "Thanks to the cooperation with TUM Family Service, all children of TUM employees can now enjoy participating in this great program."
In addition to excursions to the Blomberg mountain with a nature hike and a ride on the summer toboggan run, to Lake Starnberg with stand-up paddling and swimming, and to a high ropes course, other activities such as an Olympics, yoga sessions, and a closing party are planned on the grounds of the University Sports Center Munich. Should the weather not cooperate, an alternative program will be offered.
"We are very pleased that this year eight so-called 'heart children' from the Kinderherz association, a parents' association for children with heart disease from South Tyrol, will also be taking part again," explains Dr. Stöcker. "We have already been cooperating with the association for several years. Among other things, we have already organized and conducted winter camps together in South Tyrol."
The 2021 summer camp can be made possible because of a large number of sponsors and donations. "Among other things, we have been able to acquire sponsors for food and drinks and sports materials such as tennis rackets," Dr. Stöcker is pleased to report.
