"The Myth of Sports Science - can you study pull-ups?" This provocative question is the title of a television report on the study of sports and health sciences. Broadcasted on ARD-Alpha, Campus Magazine examines clichés and prejudices about various courses of study.
For this purpose, two days were spent filming at the Department of Sports and Health Sciences of the Technical University of Munich (TUM). Interviews were also conducted with the Dean of Studies Prof. Dr. Jörg Königstorfer (Chair of Sports and Health Management), Dr. Martin Schönfelder (Chair of Excercise Biology) and Otto Huber (Unit of Applied Sports Science). As protagonists of the film, the students Laura Betz (B.Sc. Health Science) and Raphael Krätschmer (M.Sc. Sport and Exercise Science) explain their studies and future career perspectives.
The article shows that both sports and health sciences are well-founded scientific disciplines that are of great importance in times where the lack of exercise and the associated increase in diseases are prevalent in modern society. This is because scientifically supported preventive measures can maintain health throughout a person's lifetime.
