The Department of Biomechanics in Sports, Technical University of Munich - TUM, is interested in application-oriented, biomechanical research on (competitive) sports, prevention and rehabilitation, as well as on basic research of muscle function.
In the context of a multidisciplinary project with mainly work in the field of motion analysis and biomechanical modelling we are offering a
PhD position f/m (scholarship)
starting from March 2016 for the project duration of 3 years.
The vacant position is connected to a research project focusing on the modelling, simulation and optimization of a ski jump. The project´s main goal is the identification of possible performance improvements and the derivation of measures to describe and quantify ski jumping performance.
The applicant is required to collect experimental data and to build up a biomechanical model for simulating a ski jump. Together in a team of members of the Department of Biomechanics in Sports and the Institute of Flight System Dynamics, TUM, experimental and modeled data will be used for the validation of the ski jump model in order to analyze flight dynamics and aerodynamic effects that can be used for jump performance optimizations as well as prediction of risk factors for injury surveillance.
Tasks:
- Data acquisition within an experimental study design for biomechanical modelling of a ski jump
- Generating relevant parameters for prediction of jumping performance and injury risk
- Support at engineering a high fidelity simulation of a ski jump
- Research in close cooperation with the Institute of Flight System Dynamics of TUM
- Autonomous work on a research project including aspects of project management
Requirements:
- MSc/ Diploma/ etc. in the field of sport science/ Kinesiology/ Biomechanical engineering above average
- Well versed in motion analysis, experience in biomechanical modelling
- Programming skills advantageous
- Passion for the application of research results in the field of high-performance sports
- Autonomous way of working and the ability to work in an international and multidisciplinary team
- Good English skills
We offer:
The Department of Biomechanics in Sports offers the possibility for further scientific and applied qualification while working on current and relevant research topics. Within the research group you will become a member of a highly motivated team that will support you during your personal and scientific development. You will be working highly autonomously and you will get the chance to take responsibilities in our department. The position and the project work is funded by the International Graduate School of Science and Engineering (IGSSE) of TUM which requires to join the post-graduate program there.Your salary is calculated based on a scholarship of TUM (1700 € plus consumables).
