The biennially World Congress of Performance Analysis has established itself as an international stage for the exchange for all performance analysts. Thus, academic and professional performance analysts of 32 countries responded the invitation of the ISPAS to join the congress hosted by the Universidad de Alicante. The Technical University of Munich was represented by a delegation of the Chair of Performance Analysis and Sports Informatics.
Otto Kolbinger presented his evaluation concepts for technological umpiring aids using the example of the vanishing spray in the Bundesliga. The talk pointed out the importance of comprehensive evaluative research of these interventions and tried to encourage performance analysts to use their skill set to act as a main contributor for this area of research.
Just as well received was Florian Korte’s presentation of another innovative method for performance analysis. Giving insights into the current status of his dissertation, he showed how network analysis can be used in several game sports to identify passing patterns. Attending professional performance analysts of game sports, especially those of hurling (national sport of Ireland), felt that this method can contribute to their work.
In addition, Johannes Scheider presented his bachelor’s thesis about halftime patterns in the Bundesliga, which was supervised by chair holder Prof. Lames. The Chair of Performance Analysis and Sports Informatics expresses its thanks to the organizing committee, the ISPAS and the Universidad de Alicante, for a warm atmosphere and the organization of the congress.
