Taurine is an amino acid that is not incorporated in protein. It was discovered by Tiedeman & Gmelin in ox bile in 1827. Research on taurine accelerated when it was discovered that taurine is an essential amino acid in cats and that taurine deficiency causes several diseases. Overall, Pubmed lists over 22,000 articles that contain the word “taurine” and over 8000 articles contain both “taurine” and “human”.
To elaborate this topic, we offer two master theses.
- Research on taurine: a scoping review
- Concentrations of taurine in humans: a systematic review
More information about the topics can be found on the TUM bulletin board. The theses are supervised by Prof. Henning Wackerhage.
