In March 2016, staff members of the Chair of Performance Analysis and Computer Science in Sport visited different facilities in South Africa. First, there was a trip to the High Performance Complex of the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University Port Elisabeth. Prof. Du Randt (Head of Human Movement Science Department) and other staff members showed the different equipment and afterwards the research of our Chair of Performance Analysis and Computer Science in Sport (mainly software modelling in sport and performance analysis) was presented and a talk about the work at each department has been done.
A main part of the journey was the Summer School, that was held this year in South Africa. The topic was about review processes in scientific journals with colleagues from South Africa, Germany, United States and Canada. The Summer School was under supervision of Prof. Jörg Königstorfer (TUM), Prof. Martin Lames (TUM), Prof. Jason Bacarro (NC State) and Prof. Kamilla Swart (CPUT). During the five days, there were different presentations about review processes and each member had to review an article of a colleague and was reviewed by others. Different keynote speeches of the Professors gave insights into the process of publishing in scientific journals and their point of view. In open discussions, each topic was reviewed by the whole group.
In Cape Town there was a visit of the Sports Science Institute of South Africa. During a tour, we got an overview about the facilities and the work at this institution. Afterwards there was a talk with Prof. Vicki Lambert (head of UCT Division of Exercise Science and Sports Medicine). Afterwards we visited a rugby game of the DHL Stormers.
At the end of the journey there was a meeting with Prof. Robert Lamberts (Associate Professor and Head of Orthopaedic Research) at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (Stellenbosch University).
