High honour for three former private lecturers of the newly founded Department Health and Sport Sciences. The Technical University of Munich has appointed Prof. Dr. Jan Müller (with effect from September 14, 2023), Prof. Dr. Felix Ehrlenspiel and Prof. Dr. Daniel Link (each with effect from September 18, 2023) as adjunct professors with a certificate dated September 1, 2023.
Prof. Dr. Joachim Hermsdörfer, the new Head of the Department Health and Sport Sciences, sees the appointment of the three adjunct Professors as a recognition of their outstanding achievements in previous years. Furthermore, it is also an important foundation in the promotion of the scientific base for the newly founded TUM School of Medicine and Health: "The adjunct Professorship is a way of thanking the habilitated postdocs who are successful in research and committed to teaching and recognizing their dedication. I am therefore pleased that we were able to do this for our three adjunct Professors, who all make enormously important contributions to our Department."
Prof. Dr. Renate Oberhoffer-Fritz, former Dean of the Department of Sport and Health Sciences, Head of the Chair of Preventive Pediatrics as well as new Vice Dean Talent Management and Diversity, is also delighted with the appointment: "The appointment of the new professors is a reward for the high-quality scientific work that all three have undertaken in recent years and a recognition of their commitment to TUM and our Department Health and Sport Sciences."
Statements by the new adjunct Professors:
Prof. Dr. Jan Müller has been a Research Associate at the Chair of Preventive Pediatrics since 2011 and is co-head of the Exercise and Prevention Working Group at the German Heart Center Munich. Müller obtained his doctorate there in 2011 and the venia legendi in sports sciences in 2018. His research focuses on performance physiology, quality of life, and arterial vascular stiffness in healthy children and patients with congenital heart defects. In specific study projects, Müller is concerned with activity, quality of life, performance, vascular stiffness and health prevention in adolescents and young people:
"Being appointed as an adjunct Professor at one of the world's most prestigious universities is an honour and a tribute to my academic achievements over the past years."
Prof. Dr. Felix Ehrlenspiel has been head of the Sport Psychology Unit since 2021 and devotes his research, in particular, to the connections between anxiety and athletic performance. Ehrlenspiel received his diploma in psychology from the University of Heidelberg in 2002 and his PhD from the University of Potsdam in 2006. The psychologist has been working at the Technical University of Munich since 2006 and was the managing director of the Graduate Center of the Department of Sport and Health Sciences from 2009 until the founding of the new TUM School of Medicine and Health. At the new Graduate Center of Medicine and Health, he is Head of the steering committee of the PhD program "Behavioral and Social Sciences", which leads to the Dr. phil. degree. In 2018, Prof. Ehrlenspiel obtained the habilitation and venia legendi of sport sciences at the former Department of Sport and Health Sciences:
"I am pleased about this award and recognition - also for sports psychology. This will help me to keep the subject visible both internally and externally after Prof. Jürgen Beckmann retired in 2021."
Prof. Dr. Daniel Link is a scientist at the Chair of Performance Analysis and Sports Informatics. After studying computer science at TU Dortmund University, Prof. Link earned his PhD in sport science at the University of Augsburg. At the former Department of Sport and Health Sciences, he obtained the venia legendi for sport sciences. Prof. Link's work focuses on the systematics of training and competition as well as the digitalization of sport. This includes technological aspects of data acquisition, the mathematical modelling of performance aspects and the analysis of sports data, for example, using AI methods. He also supports German elite sport in the implementation of match analysis processes.
"I would like to thank the former Department for recognizing the work they have done and see the award equally as a mandate and encouragement to bring the Performance Analysis perspective to the newly founded TUM School of Medicine and Health and to generate new collaborations."
