"Nachtcafé" is one of the most successful formats in the SWR. Since its first airing on February 14, 1987, more than 700 programs have been produced and shown to date. All told, the "Nachtcafé" is viewed by an audience of around 700 000 on Friday evening. Since January 2015, the talk show has been moderated by Prof. Dr. Michael Steinbrecher.
ARD-αlpha show "Aufbruch zu neuem Denken: Herrausforderung Inklusion" (lifting for new thinking: Challenge Inclusion)
Wacker was already to be seen Thursday, February 19, 2015 at 7:15 p.m. on the educational program ARD-αlpha from the Bayerische Rundfunk (Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation). As a studio guest on the program "alpha-Forum Extra", the Professor of the Chair for Social Diversity discussed the topic "Awakening to a new way of thinking: The challenge of inclusion" together with Josef Mederer, President of the District Assembly of Upper Bavaria, and Heiko Kunert, Director of the Association of the Blind and Visually Handicapped in Hamburg. A recording of this discussion can be seen in the BR Mediathek.
How important further efforts will be on the way to an inclusive society can be seen in the German Federal Participation Report 2013. Here, the scientific advisory board - under the direction of Wacker - attempted for the first time, to calculate what chances individual people really have to participate in society.
The result: "Among the individuals who were statistically classified as being impaired, three groups were discovered. One group which actually lives without any disadvantages, who also receive support, explains Wacker. A second group - around 50 percent - who do indeed experience disadvantages, which can nevertheless be counterbalanced through appropriate support. The third group, made up of about 25 percent, in contrast, is clearly inadequately supported", according to Wacker. "In part, they don't even have a disabled person's pass, since they are not even aware that they have these rights, or because they are so excluded - that is so barred - and so uninformed that they are not aware of their rights at all. In our society, this is actually unbearable", concludes Wacker in the BR program.
