"Nutrition, exercise, lifestyle - now is the chance!" - this is the title of a web seminar organized by Health Care Bayern e. V. in cooperation with the Bayerischer Heilbäder-Verband e. V. on February 12, 2021, as part of the series "Prevention in times of Corona - What's possible?". In addition to the new Bavarian Minister of Health Klaus Holetschek, Prof. Dr. Renate Oberhoffer-Fritz, Dean of the Department of Sports and Health Sciences and head of the Chair of Preventive Pediatrics, and Prof. Dr. Karsten Köhler, head of the Professorship for Exercise, Nutrition and Health, will each give presentations.
The general thematic focus of the series of events is on the field of prevention. This is intended to send a positive signal in the current era, which is dominated by restrictions and protective measures, and to sensitize people to take more personal responsibility for their own health. This concerns physical, but also mental health and can, among other things, also involve different living environments such as private everyday life, but also the profession (health at work or in the home office).
The web seminar will be opened by the Bavarian Minister of Health, Klaus Holetschek, who will address the awareness of health since the beginning of the Corona pandemic in his presentation "Prevention - Importance in times of Corona".
Afterwards, under the title "Exercise for all - What does the WHO say?", the dean will address, among other things, the questions of what influence the pandemic has on exercise behavior and what consequences this has for health.
"On the one hand, the WHO's physical activity recommendations to promote health come at an inopportune time - because we all know how difficult it is at the moment to implement one's physical activity resolutions in lockdown. Children and adolescents in particular are affected by a lack of exercise, as school sports are no longer offered. On the other hand, they come just at the right time - because for a long time people have not been as open to the topic of health as they are now. There will also be a 'next normal' in sports and exercise programs," explains Prof. Oberhoffer-Fritz.
In his presentation "Exercise & Nutrition in Prevention - 1+1 = 2," Prof. Köhler addresses the question of whether an active lifestyle automatically leads to a healthier diet.
"Nutrition and physical activity are two important building blocks of a healthy lifestyle, but unfortunately little is still known about how these two factors influence each other. For example, a change in physical activity behavior can lead - mostly unconsciously - to unhealthier dietary behavior, which is something we naturally want to avoid," said Prof. Köhler. "On the other hand, we can maximize the benefits of an intervention through a targeted combination of nutrition and exercise interventions."
The web seminar is free of charge and freely accessible via the videoconferencing tool "GoToWebinar" after prior registration.
