In cooperation with the German Youth Institute (DJI), the Technical University of Munich (TUM) has issued an announcement for a professorship in "Empirical social research in childhood and adolescence". The Chair will be occupied at the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences. On Monday, July 4, 2016 (8:15 a.m. - 03:00 p.m.), the vocational talks of the six invited candidates will take place (Room L022; Campus D, Georg Brauchle Ring 60/62). Professors, employees as well as students of the faculty are cordially invited to attend.
A basis for this is the newly agreed upon partnership of the TUM with the DJI in the center for which this professorship is being created. "With the new Joint Chair, we once again strengthen our social and political sciences," says TUM President Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Wolfgang A. Herrmann. "
In times of profound technological change a technical university of rank must deal more with the social impact of these changes. In cooperation with the German Youth Institute for youth prevention, we build a bridge to our sport and health sciences, which has a focus on prevention research."A variety of new potentials arise through the new chair at the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences. In this way, the research will in the future be able to work with the large pool of data from the DJI. The students will benefit from the expansion of the curriculum.
Trend studies on the living conditions of children, juveniles and families
The DJI is one of the biggest extramural social science research institutes in Europe. The headquarters of the institute, founded in 1963 by the German Parliament, is in Munich. Thematically, the DJI deals with socially relevant and current issues at the interface of science, practice and politics. The implementation of large-scale trend studies on the living conditions of children, juveniles and families has a long tradition here. Here, for example, in the study "Growing up in Germany: everyday life - AID: A", around 30,000 people have been questioned every four years since 2009.
Design and performance of these trend studies by the DJI are derived at the "Center for Continuous Observation and Methods". In the future, the management of this center will be taken over by the new holder of the Chair for Empirical Social Research in Childhood and Adolescence. A focus should be the prevention of problematic development histories among children and adolescents. For the quantitative investigation on this topic, it is important to take into account as many individual, social, and institutional influences, whether it be the origin, ethnic background, or the economic and professional situation of the parents.
