The Chair of Preventive Pediatrics of Professor Prof. Dr. Renate Oberhoffer is a new member of the Alliance for Prevention. The Alliance was founded by the Bavarian State Ministry of Health and Care. Core concerns are health promotion and the early detection and prevention of diseases.
"I am very pleased that we are integrated into this network and can work together with the many other partners, as well as achieving advancements in the topic of 'prevention' and promoting and also initiating common projects," states Prof. Oberhoffer.
Bavaria: 1.2 million suffering from diabetes
Cardiovascular diseases such as stroke or heart attack and diabetes are also common diseases in Bavaria. According to the Ministry, 1.2 million inhabitants have diabetes, so to say nearly every tenth person. However, there are effective preventive measures for these diseases. A key role to the "movement" here, is that a health-promoting lifestyle must be included in the framework of daily life.
"The curative medicine with its cost structure in our ageing society comes to limits. Any responsible government must therefore strive for prevention. And the Bavarian State does this - among other things with the Alliance for Prevention," as the Dean of the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences has analyzed.
Four fields of action in the Bavarian prevention plan
As a basis for the work of this network, the Bavarian prevention plan was drawn up in 2015. In this way we hope to succeed intensively in preventing diseases and in identifying them earlier. Four areas of action were identified for this purpose:
• Growing up healthy in the family, in day-care centers and in school
• Health literacy in the workplace and workplace prevention culture
• Healthy ageing in the self-determined life environment
• Equal opportunity for health - a cross-sectional topic involving the three other areas
The Chair of Preventive Pediatrics has been performing research for several years now in the field of "children's health", among other things through the projects 'Great Moments in Health', "Catch the Pulse Wave" and "Evaskip". Currently running is the project funded by the Berchtesgaden Land District entitled "Fit & Clever", in which the state of fitness in around 3,000 pupils is collected and observed over the course of several years.
Already more than 100 partners are engaged in the "Alliance for Prevention", which was founded in November 2015. Included here are representatives of the trade associations, health insurance companies, associations, clubs and partners from the industry.
