Thus, the team of the Department of Sport and Health Management was delighted to win Gerhard Geckle as a guest lecturer for the practical seminar in sport and health management, as well as for students of the introduction to management lecture of Prof. Königstorfer. Mr. Geckle was the last of many guest lecturers in the winter semester 2013/2014, and as an expert in the field of nonprofit clubs, held a lively and interactive talk about present trends and incentives for nonprofit organizations.
Building on the necessity of the nonprofit sector for Germany as a country, and explaining the principles of the founding of clubs, the central aspect of the lecture was the strengthening of volunteer work in Germany by means of new regulatory guidelines released in 2013. Mr. Geckle did not only address the theoretical aspects of these new regulations, but he also illustrated how these regulations affect volunteer work, clubs in general, and the whole nonprofit sector of Germany economically and judicially, by implementing concrete exercise examples. Given that many students in the audience were volunteers, and some were even board members of sports clubs, the students were able to take home hands-on knowledge for their own regular work in the clubs, which they can also pass on to their clubs, by showing them how to take advantage of the new regulatory framework.
