“I would like to utilise my skills learned along the way and contribute to impactful research and implementation of preventive health measures in the future.”
Coming from Australia, studying and working in Germany has been a fun adventure. In Australia, I studied health sciences and specialised in clinical vision sciences (orthoptics) in my undergrad, and went on to study epidemiology for my postgrad degree here in Germany. I was keen to learn of prevention strategies and the research supporting these ideas ever since I worked in a clinic seeing wonderful patients that unfortunately were living with preventable lifestyle-related eye diseases (and often also comorbidities). Currently I am working towards finishing my PhD in epidemiology, focusing on ways to improve the cervical cancer screening program in Germany. I would like to utilise my skills learned along the way and contribute to impactful research and implementation of preventive health measures in the future. I chose the TUM because I believed that my research and career goals could be achieved through the variety of opportunities to partake in workshops and seminars across different fields. The year 2020 will always have a special meaning to me. Sudden interest in the course I teach on global health epidemiology peaked and opportunities to join webinars, conferences etc. from all the world was suddenly possible. Digitalisation has definitely shown many positive benefits for my learning and daily work routine. However, I'll be happy to finally meet my students and colleagues in person once again!
