On 17 February 2022, the Department of Sport and Health Sciences (SG) will bid farewell to its graduates at the Absolvia celebration. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event will be held digitally for the second time after 2021.
In 2022, the best scientific papers will again be awarded the Dr. Gertrude Krombholz Prize. The award, which will be presented for the 24th time, is endowed with a total of 1,500 euros (three prizes of 500 euros each).
Since 1999, Dr. Gertrude Krombholz has been supporting talented students at TUM with the prize named after her. To ensure that the funds for the annual award are always secured, she established a foundation in 2009 together with former TUM President Wolfgang A. Herrmann.
The Department SG encourages all academic institutions to submit final theses in the fields of sports and/or health sciences that combine theory and practice in a special way and have received a final grade between 1.0 and 1.7.
All Bachelor's, Master's and admission theses by students who have completed their main studies at the Department SG (Bachelor of Health Science or Sport Science, Master of Health Science or Sport & Exercise Science, teaching degree with teaching subject or extension subject Sport) can be proposed. A maximum of three proposals per chair, department and scientific institution can be submitted as originals by the respective supervisor either directly to the Department's Dean's Office (Manuela Huber or Franziska Mayer, rooms L606/L610) or in digital form (by e-mail to dekanat.sg(at)tum.de or by USB stick). The deadline for submission is 7 January 2022.
The jury, consisting of Prof. Dr. Joachim Hermsdörfer, Prof. Dr. Martin Lames, Prof. Dr. Ansgar Schwirtz and the founder and namesake Dr. Gertrude Krombholz, will select the three prize winners from all the submitted works, who will then be personally honoured at the Absolvia celebration and receive the prize money.
Dr. Gertrude Krombholz, former Head Academic Director of the Department of Physical Education at TUM, is a dance and physical education teacher and founder of wheelchair dance. She has received numerous awards for her tireless work, such as the Federal Cross of Merit with Ribbon, the Bavarian Order of Merit, the Golden Ring of Honour of the City of Munich and the "Paralympic Order" of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). The TUM awarded Dr. Krombholz the Golden Ring of Honour and the Golden Badge of Honour for her outstanding, far above-obligatory performance and her decades of commitment to sports teacher training and university sport.
