"One Year to Go" - Big event of the European Championships 2022 on August 11, 2021 throughout Munich

Under the motto "One Year to Go," a variety of events will take place at various locations throughout Munich on Wednesday, August 11, 2021
In addition to the Olympic Park and the Theresienwiese, there is also a program at Odeonsplatz

50 years after the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, the European Championships (EC) will be held in the state capital in 2022. From August 11 to 21, 2022, around 4,400 athletes from all over Europe will compete for a total of 158 medals. The European Championships will take place in nine sports: beach volleyball, canoe racing, climbing, gymnastics, athletics, cycling, rowing, table tennis and triathlon.

August 11, 2021 is now "One Year to Go," exactly one year until the official opening of EC 2022, and the organizing committee has come up with a little preview for the day throughout the city.

In particular, there will be an attractive program in the Olympic Park on that day. One of the highlights will be the duel between kayaker Max Lemke and rower Oliver Zeidler, who will meet shortly after their return from the Olympic Games in Tokyo. On the Olympic lake, they will compete in a thrilling duel in swapped boats starting at about 7:45 PM.

On land at the start is another Olympic participant. Christina Hering, former student of the Department of Sport and Health Sciences and seven-time German champion in the 800 meters, invites to a Community Run over five kilometers with subsequent "Get Together" from 6 PM on.

Concerts and plenty of art and culture are on the program from 5 PM at the Theatron in the Olympic Park and thus serve as a prelude to "The Roofs," the Festival of Diversity, which will accompany the European Championships next year as a colorful supporting event.

The Odeonsplatz, which in a year's time will be the destination of the marathon competitions, the road cycling races and the walking competitions, will also be the venue on August 11 for an initial introduction to the Munich Summer 2022. Those interested can try out a wide variety of sports here.

The winners of the table tennis tournament, which starts at 5 PM, and the rowing ergometer challenge (12 to 8 PM) will receive free tickets for next year's events. In addition, a bouldering cube invites visitors to climb. The day at the Feldherrnhalle will be rounded off with a music program with some surprises.

Also on the Theresienwiese, free tickets for the EC 2022 can be won at the beach volleyball tournament starting at 4 PM. To play in, the clay courts are already available from 9 AM.
