Doctorate

We are pleased that you are interested in the topic of doctoral programs at the TUM Department of Sport and Health Sciences. At our department, graduates with an above-average degree can pursue a doctorate in one of the various research areas and earn a doctoral degree in either philosophy (Dr. phil.) or natural sciences (Dr. rer. nat.). Doctoral candidates at the Department of Sport and Health Sciences have to complete an additional mandatory qualification program required by the Graduate Center, Department of Sport and Health Sciences (FGZ / FGZ-SG). Utilizing qualification elements from both the TUM Graduate School and the FGZ ensures a structured doctoral program.

Graduate Center, Department of Sport and Health Sciences (FGZ-SG)

As part of the TUM Graduate School, the FGZ-SG seeks to facilitate and support doctoral projects at the Department of Sport and Health Sciences. In addition to supervising doctorates at the chairs, the TUM Graduate School and FGZ-SG help doctoral candidates connect with other doctoral candidates, develop subject-specific and transferrable skills, perform scientific work, establish an international focus and international networks, and structure the doctoral project. The primary task of the Graduate Center, Department of Sport and Health Sciences, is to provide support and advice right on site, particularly with regard to structuring the doctoral project as well as organizing the subject-specific program. Currently, this program comprises a colloquium for doctoral candidates, seminars for doctoral candidates in various sport science fields, and a winter academy.
