Diversity refers to differences and similarities among people. Simply put, diversity means variety. The Department of Sport and Health Sciences considers the topic a core task and promotes the conscious handling of diversity dimensions in all fields of activity. The aim is to scientifically strengthen diversity in all its facets, especially in connection with the topics of sport and health. For this reason, the Diversity Award for diversity-related, scientific theses is announced annually and made accessible to a broader public.
Very good final theses (up to grade 1.7) of students of the Department can be submitted until January 6, 2023, together with the corresponding expert opinion and a short letter of recommendation to the Diversity Officer Andrea Göttler (e-mail: andrea.goettler(at)tum.de, phone: 089 289 24694). The letter of recommendation to be enclosed should specifically outline how the work contributes to strengthening diversity-sensitive perspectives in health and sport sciences. All scholarly work submitted to the Department in 2022 is eligible. The award recognizes bachelor's, master's, and licensure theses and dissertations that are examined according to the level of scientific qualification.
The Department's Diversity Committee, which consists of Prof. Dr. Elisabeth Wacker (Sociology of Diversity Unit), Prof. Dr. Ansgar Schwirtz (Associate Professorship of Biomechanics in Sports), the Managing Director Dr. Till Lorenzen, the Gender Equality Officer Dr. Barbara Reiner, and Diversity Officer Andrea Göttler, decides on the award.
The prize is endowed with a total of 2,000 euros and can be awarded to up to three individuals. The Diversity Award will be presented at Absolvia 2023 on February 2 of next year.
