"Open house day at our department was a great success. We continuously had a high number of visitors and could present many of them with an inside view of our research activities," says Prof. Dr. Filip Mess. The dean of students for the teaching profession at the Department of Sport and Health Sciences was also happy to see that "a great number of young individuals had come, posed a lot of questions and showed interest in our course of studies".
On the occasion of the open house day of the TUM, held at the Prevention and Performance Lab (PPL) on the TUM campus in the Olympic Park, the faculty presented a broad sample of thematic and interdisciplinary diversity on Saturday, October 13 - from preventive pediatrics to biomechanics, movement science, sport psychology as well as nutrition science. "The colleagues presented great offers. We were successful in making science accessible, in presenting it as learnable and fascinated our visitors with exciting interactive participation stations," says Prof. Mess.
At the individual stations, various chairs demonstrated methods and projects of their research portfolio. This covered, for example, augmented reality in rehabilitation, the determination of jumping power using a force-measurement plate, the observation of the activity of the musculature by means of electromyography (EMG), a "view of the brain" using an electroencephalograph (EEG) or an obstacle course on nutrition. In one lecture each, Prof. Mess, Prof. Dr. Joachim Hermsdörfer (a full professor in the movement sciences) and Prof. Dr. Henning Wackerhage (a full professor in sport biology) presented their individual faculties. Dr. Florian Kreuzpointner, director of the PPL, guided three groups through the laboratories and the nutritional scientist, Dr. Christina Holzapfel, presented new discoveries in "nutrition".

Numerous visitors participated in that which was offered. For instance, more than 100 lung function tests were performed during the day and the results were explained to the test subjects.
The open house day at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) was carried out on the occasion of the 150-year-old existence of the university. On this occasion, all TUM locations opened their gates on Saturday.
