"Sport cardiology in the young and old." Under this motto, the Center for Prevention and Sport Medicine from Full Prof. Dr. med. Martin Halle along with the German Heart Center Munich are holding a symposium on Saturday, December 5, 2015 (at 9:00 a.m., in the Lecture Hall of the German Heart Center Munich).
Recognized furthering education for medical doctors
"I am happy to see that we have a chance with this event to pass on scientific knowledge on the topic of sport cardiology and to even pass this on to physicians, like cardiologists in private practice, for example," says Prof. Halle, the Vice-Dean of the TUM School of Sport and Health Sciences. This event is recognized as furthering education for physicians by the German Society for Cardiology. The great interest that this symposium demonstrates is reflected in the fact that 200 persons have already registered to attend.
Every two years, the Center for Prevention and Sport Medicine holds a symposium which, at the same time, is also the 4th German-Austrian Symposium. Aside from the German Heart Center, Halle's team also cooperates with Univ. Prof. Dr. Dr. Josef Niebauer from the Medical Faculty of the Salzburg Paracelsus Private University.
Prof. Halle: "Training with heart problems for various different target groups"
Thematically, the symposium is differentiated into three main sessions: "Sport and the heart in children and adolescents", "Sport and the heart in primary prevention" and "Sport and the heart in secondary prevention." "Exciting about this symposium is that we will expand on the topic of training in spite of heart problems for various different age groups, extending from children up to elderly individuals. What scopes of training are recommendable for which group? And what type and intensity of training? We will elucidate on these questions," explains Vice-Dean Halle. After all, in practice, recommendations are frequently still being followed which are already 30 years old, says Halle. Especially in relation to the training intensities and training modalities, practitioners lack the important know-how, explains the Medical Director of the Center for Prevention and Sports Medicine.
Aside from Halle and his staff members, Prof. Dr. med. Renate Oberhoffer, the Dean of Studies, will also provide a lecture on the topic of "Training in the event of congenital heart defects: Wishes and reality". The Full Professor at the Department for Preventive Pediatrics, along with her team, are especially dedicated to the application of sport and movement in the young and also in patient groups.
The symposium "Sport cardiology in the young and old" begins on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. Target groups are physicians, sport scientists, physiotherapists, students as well as "everyone who works with patients. We hope to pass on important knowledge to a broad group of practitioners," summarizes Halle.
