Asked how harmful all that sitting in "home office" or during "home schooling" is for children, Prof. Oberhoffer-Fritz replied: "There is now a slogan that says sitting is the new smoking. Sitting is in itself at least again as dangerous for our health as not moving or not moving enough. If we at least get up once between our home office activities, or even walk around when we're talking to our friends via smartphone, that would be a big win in itself."
Finally, the Dean offered some advice on how long kids should be moving during the day: "The current recommendations that have come out from the World Health Organization talk about 60 minutes of physical activity either way - whether it's free play outside or running up and down the house, every minute counts."
