According to the World Health Organization (WHO), due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there is "deep concern worldwide that leaders are not investing enough resources in key health priorities and systems. This puts lives, livelihoods, and economies at risk. None of these problems are easy to solve, but they are within reach."
For this reason, the School of Sport and Health Sciences will host an interdisciplinary "Future of Health" Summit and a related Summer School from September 13-18, 2021, for undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, and young professional students with an interest in the diverse topics of health. The Bavarian Minister of State for Health and Care, Klaus Holetschek, has assumed patronage for the interdisciplinary Summit and Summer School.
"I am very pleased that we have been able to attract renowned experts from all over the world for our Future of Health Summit and the subsequent Summer School," explains Prof. Dr. Renate Oberhoffer-Fritz, Dean of the Faculty and Full Professor of the Chair of Preventive Pediatrics. "It also makes us very proud that Health Minister Klaus Holetschek has agreed to be the patron of the event. This demonstrates the importance of the Summit as well as the Summer School, which are being organized by our faculty for the first time."
The Summit addresses current health challenges and focuses on the fundamental changes that are imperative for sustainable health. The focus is on six themes that are driving health change. To find out what the new normal will be, the following issues will be discussed and innovative responses for the health sector will be developed:
- Driving economic growth and improving quality of life and life expectancy: Can we have it all?
- Lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic and how to prepare for the next global health challenge.
- What will the healthcare system of the future look like - insights from around the world.
- In the robot's sights: how will technology change health systems?
- Shifting from a sick service to a wellness system.
- Leadership change - how to capture change
