The coronavirus has also changed sport in Germany forever. Sports may only be practised again under strict hygiene rules. In some federal states, such as Bavaria, a visit to the gym is only possible with mouth-nose protection and subject to distancing rules. Clubs and associations face enormous legal challenges. In addition, there are dangers for risk groups when doing sports and uncertainty for top athletes as to how the pandemic will affect the practice of their sport. Even major events such as the Olympic Games or the European Football Championship had to be postponed due to COVID-19.

On all of these topics, the Chair of Exercise Biology of Prof. Dr. Henning Wackerhage and Dr. Martin Schönfelder in cooperation with Norbert Moser of the statutory accident insurance VGB will hold a digital zoom conference entitled "COVID-19 & German Sport: Facts, Myths and Recommendations for Action” on Thursday, 20 August 2020, from 3 to 6 PM.

Prof. Dr. Henning Wackerhage, Dr. Martin Schönfelder and Norbert Moser were able to win the following top-class speakers for the event:

Prof. Dr. Ulrike Protzer is a physician, virologist and director of the Institute of Virology at the TU Munich and the Helmholtz Center Munich. In her presentation she will focus on "SARS-CoV-2: a virus like no other" (3:00-3:30 PM).

Norbert Moser is a physicist and coordinates the sports prevention field of the statutory accident insurance VBG. He has co-authored COVID-19 and other guidelines for sport. During the Zoom conference he will talk about "Legal framework conditions for clubs and athletes" (3:30-4:00 PM).

Prof. Dr. Henning Wackerhage holds the Chair of Exercise Biology at the TU Munich. Among other things, his team created a hygiene concept for the reopening of fitness studios for the German Industry Association for Fitness and Health (DIFG e.V.). His thematic focus is therefore on "COVID-19 and fitness studios".  (4:00-4:30 PM).

Prof. Dr. Martin Halle is a sports physician and heads the Center for Prevention and Sports Medicine at the TU Munich. He is chairman of the board of trustees for prevention and rehabilitation and has planned the COVID-19 protection for rehabilitation sports, especially for risk groups. He will present the topic "Sport with COVID-19 risk groups" to the conference participants (4:30-5:00 PM).

Prof. Dr. Bernd Wolfarth is a sports physician and heads the Department of Sports Medicine at the Charité in Berlin. He is Chief Olympic Physician of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) and oversees the SARS-CoV-2 measures in German competitive sports. He will speak on "COVID-19 and top athletes" (5:00-5:30 PM).

Prof. Dr. Tim Meyer is a sports physician and team doctor for the German national football team. He helped plan the COVID-19 concept for the restart of the Bundesliga. Finally, he will report on the topic "COVID-19 & Bundesliga season 2020/2021" (5:30-6:00 PM).

The Zoom conference will be moderated by Eike Schulz, editor and reporter of the ZDF sports desk.

Each item on the program consists of a two-minute introduction, a 20-minute lecture and a subsequent question and answer session. Questions to the speakers can be asked via the Zoom chat function.
