Our PhD student Fakhreddin Yaghoob Nezhad recently published his first paper for his PhD thesis at the Chair of Exercise Biology. We know that our endurance capacity is inherited by ~50%. In order to identify endurance-related candidate genes, we conducted a systematic review to identify genes whose experimental loss or gain-of-function results in significant increase of endurance performance. We found 31 genes that meet our search criteria and potentially cause increased endurance performance after gene manipulation. Furthermore, these genes are regulated in part by exercise and play possibly a role in adaptation to endurance exercise. For more information, you will find the full-text here.
