The Department of Sport and Health Sciences

We offer you a broad, interdisciplinary scientific portfolio on numerous topics in sport and the health sciences. Our expertise covers a large spectrum under the guideline motive of "movement". Aside from innovative high-quality research - involving the topics of health and prevention over the course of a lifetime, competitive and popular sports as well as also the pedagogical and the educational environment - this also includes the training of future specialists and teachers, as well as the implementation of research results in society and for competitive sports.

Through our interdisciplinary organization, we offer diverse preventative measures and solutions for the complex problems in health of all age groups in modern society, a field with ever increasing relevance. Hereby, we effectively address the continuing increase in such civilization illnesses as adipositas, heart infarcts and strokes.

As a reliable scientific partner in competitive sports, we support top athletes, associations and clubs through our advisory offers, diagnostic performance tests and research results, which are transferred directly into practice and adapted further there.

We train the teachers of tomorrow, prepare them adequately for the demands in handling the ever more heterogeneous school classes and show them pedagogical tools to enable them to also inspire the generation of tomorrow with enthusiasm for movement and sports.

Aside from a well-founded scientific training and specialist competence, we provide our students with the necessary skills in order to develop relevant questions, to identify and specify problems, and to then solve these under one's own initiative. With these key competences, our students are well prepared to perform inspirationally in a dynamic job market in the fields of "health", "education" and "sport".

By 2022, our trend-setting new building made of wood and glass will be erected on the TUM Campus in the Olympic Park. To this end, the Free State of Bavaria is investing 143 million euros in Europe's largest and most modern sports campus.
