KIPeriOP – AI-Augmented Perioperative Clinical Decision Support


According to current knowledge, complications and even mortality associated with surgery are strongly patient-associated. A more intensive analysis of the patient's individual health parameters prior to an operation could improve the assessment of the risks that could directly occur during or as a result of an operation. The KIPeriOP project aims to increase the quality of perioperative care.

A guideline-based clinical decision support tool (CDS-Tool) will be integrated into the daily clinical routine of selected hospitals and under the supervision of the attending physicians. In this way, data on the current quality of care will be generated. In a future-oriented step, the CDS-Tool will be supplemented with AI-based decision support. Treating physicians as well as a group of experts from the Faculty of Applied Ethics at RWTH Aachen University are intensively accompanying the project.

The Chair of Health Economics is responsible for the development of an economic model in the project. The health economic effects of the implemented guideline-based clinical decision support will be analysed.

On 18th June 2021 the consortium met digitally for the Kick-off Event for KIPeriOP. The Frauenhofer Institut für Digitale Medizin MEVIS also published a press release to give an overview over the project.

The project KIPeriOP starts on 1st October 2020 with a term of three years.
