“Bionics is the application of biological methods and systems found in nature to the study and design of engineering systems and modern technology. By means of interdisciplinary cooperation, technical questions are to be solved through abstraction, transfer and application of knowledge gained from biological models. To this end, biologists work closely with engineers, architects, physicists, chemists and materials researchers. A well-known historical example is Leonardo Da Vinci's flying machines, which are based on the movements of a flying bird (VDI 6220).
Michel Fornasier aka “superhero” Bionicman wears a hand prosthesis himself and seeks to build bridges by sensitizing the society to modern prostheses and bullying - for this purpose he founded the "Give Children a Hand" foundation, which enables children with physical disabilities to get prostheses built from a 3D printer.
